Tea tree essential oil is derived from the leaves of a plant called Melaleuca alternifolia, native to Australia. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Tea tree oil has the ability to kill a range of yeasts and fungi, including Candida albicans, a type of yeast which commonly affects the genitals.
